Ricky C. Schultz, aka Rick, or Pickles, Buddy, Buford or even Butterfly to some, left us on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Ascension Mercy Hospital. He was born in Oshkosh on December 29, 1959, to the late William and Rose (Haase) Schultz. He swept Ann Verdegan off her feet 37 years ago; their first date was a Brewer game, and the rest was history.
Rick spent his days as a truck driver and played baseball, hunted and fished in his downtime, reveling in his lifetime Otter Street Fishing Club membership. His passion for cribbage was unmatched, with his legendary 29-hand triumph (while playing with his dad) at The Hour Bar living on for eternity.
A social butterfly, he found his second family at Rustic Woods Campground in Waupaca, where campfire conversations turned strangers into kin. One of the campground’s most notorious events to take place was the unrehearsed reenactment scene from Dirty Dancing between Rick and Ann. Whether it was savoring prime rib at the Black Otter with his granddaughter or savaging cones at Leon’s with his grandkids, Rick loved life's finer things.
Rick is lovingly survived by the love of his life, Ann Verdegan; daughter, Stephanie “Stinks” Wallin; grandchildren, Kimberly, Jennica and Dontae; great-grandson, Bryson; siblings, William (Derek) Schultz, Edie May and Tina (Mark) Griswold; Ann’s mother, Mary Rose Verdegan; Ann’s siblings, Mona (Mike) Rabas and Don (Ann) Verdegan; step-brothers-and-sisters: Mike (Lisa) Mathe, Sue (Len) Rothe, Jim (Robyn) Mathe, Larry Mathe, Diane Mathe, Steve Mathe. Rick is further survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jonathon Schultz, brother-in-law, Soren May; Ann’s father, Donald Verdegan; Ann’s brother, Jon Verdegan; stepfather, Joseph Mathe. A memorial service for Rick will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside, 100 Lake Pointe Dr. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
