Robert D. Sharratt, 94, of Oshkosh, made his transition to his new life Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Evergreen-Creekview. Robert was born December 24, 1918, in Winnebago County, a son of Lawrence and Ubena Sharratt. He grew up in the Oshkosh area attending Snell School--Class of 34 and graduating from Oshkosh High School--Class of 37. During high school, Bob was in the FFA. Bob met Ione Jones in a young peoples' group at Algoma Blvd. Methodist Church. Bob and Ione were married on September 26, 1942. Together they farmed in the Town of Oshkosh until the early 1960s. Robert was a caring father, grandpa, and great-grandpa. He was a hardworking man, being born and living his entire life on the site of the Sharratt farm, with the exception of his last one and a half years at Evergreen. Besides farming Bob had worked as treasurer for the Winnebago Co. DHIA, Clerk for the Town of Oshkosh, agent for Farmers Mutual and American Family Insurance, account clerk at Pleasant Acres, and employee of the Winnebago Co. Highway Department. He was instrumental in organizing the first Town of Oshkosh Volunteer Fire Dept., where he served 50 + years. He enjoyed time at Blue Mt. Lake with Ione and family. Bob was a member of Algoma Blvd. United Methodist Church where he was an usher and worker for the church. He volunteered at EAA and Theda Clark Hospital. He was a pal to several beloved dogs. Robert will be greatly missed by his children, Carolee (Dale) Heinen, Richard (Nancy) Sharratt, and Dr. Jack Sharratt (partner-Hedy Lindgren); grandchildren, Wade (Chris) Heinen, Chad (Peg) Heinen, Derek (Lisa) Sharratt, Jeff (Katie) Sharratt, Teresa (Chris) Gassel, and Emily (Dave) Eades; great-grandchildren, Drake, Dylan, Claire, Brynn, Hannah, Sienna, Andrew, and Grant; brother, Glenn Sharratt; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter-in-law Jane Shuman Sharratt; sisters Nellie Dahlke and Marie Coffelt, and brother Roger Sharratt. A memorial service for Robert will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Algoma Blvd. United Methodist Church (1174 Algoma Blvd.) with Rev. Barry Yarbro officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in memory of Robert to the Algoma Blvd. United Methodist Church. Bobs family would like to thank the caring staff at Evergreen and Rev. Barry Yarbro for their care and help.
