Robert J. Juedes

Robert J. Juedes, 89 of Oshkosh passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Bethel Home, where he resided for the past two years. He was born in Oshkosh, WI. on October 5, 1916, a son of Edward Frank and Catherine Elizabeth Paffenroth Juedes. Bob married Sylvia B. Bodoh in Crown Point, IN, on April 8, 1938. She passed away on July 8, 1996.Bob attended Oshkosh High School, but left early to help his family through the depression by joining the Civil Conservation Corps in 1934. He served in the Six Forty-Ninth Company CCC, Camp Laona, in Crandon, WI. He was a longtime employee of the Universal Foundry from which he retired in 1973. Bob was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.Bob enjoyed printing and was attracted to it during his high school days. He attended night school print shop classes and while in the C.C.C. he helped print an eight page camp paper, published every other week. With his knowledge of printing, he established the Quality Print Shop of Oshkosh, where he was the sole owner and operator. An extremely hard working man it was very common for Bob to put in sixteen hour days between his two jobs.Bob was a charter member of the Universal Foundry Credit Union, which has been renamed Oshkosh Community Credit Union following the close of the Universal Foundry. He was a member of the board of directors for 41 years and served as chairman of the board for 30 years. He was actively involved in Credit Union business at both the county and state levels. Bob provided years of service to Oshkosh baseball, particularly with the Snitz Club. As a past president of the club, he was very instrumental in the development of E.J. Schneider Field, where a plaque honoring him for his years of leadership and service is on display. In the 1970s, Bob with the assistance of many others, was determined to bring lighted baseball back to the city of Oshkosh. During his retirement years Bob could frequently be found watching the youth of Oshkosh participating in baseball. This brought him great delight.With his strong dedication to the City of Oshkosh, Bob became active in the political scene. He became an icon for citizen advocacy. He regularly attended meetings of the Oshkosh Common Council for more than twenty years. Former Oshkosh City Manager William Frueh regularly referred to Bob as the Mayor of Beech Street. He lived for almost his entire adult life on Beech Street. Appointed by Frueh, Bob took great pride in serving for years on the Citizens Advisory Committee.Later in life, he became heavily involved in wood carving. A member of the Winnebago Wood Carvers, Bob hand carved over 70 decoys, as well as a wide variety of other figures. His work has been frequently seen at shows around the county. His family cherishes that the majority of his work has been passed on to them to enjoy in the years to come. He also enjoyed refurbishing and collecting old farm engines.A man with strong family values, the joy of his life was following the activities of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. For close to thirty years he became a regular at Sheboygan Falls High School football games, where his son Dan has been the longtime varsity football coach. As a youth growing up in Oshkosh, he enjoyed participating in baseball, hockey, fishing, and hunting. As an adult he found time to enjoy snow-mobiling and go karting.Survivors include two sons, David (Beverly) Juedes, Oshkosh; Daniel (Shelley) Juedes, Sheboygan Falls; two daughters, Joyce (Dennis) Wussow, Oshkosh; Jean Pickering, Oshkosh; ten grandchildren, Jamie (Greg) Miller, Jane (Jeff) Roberts, Jodi Juedes, Dr. Brian (Christine) Wussow, Robert (Lori) Juedes, James (Tamara) Hanseder, Elizabeth (Matthew) Seeliger, Dieter, Jacob, and Bryce Juedes; twelve great grandchildren; one brother Donald (Marcia) Juedes, Watertown, WI; one brother-in-law Milford (Evelyn) Bodoh, Clintonville, WI; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia, an infant son, Robert; his parents Edward and Catherine Juedes, grandparents Henry and Catherine Lautenschlager Paffenroth, and August and Hedwig Marks Juedes, a sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Sam Thomas; a son-in-law Robert J. Pickering, and father and mother-in-law, Marshall and Pearl Cass Bodoh.Funeral services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church (1206 Ontario St.) on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 beginning at 1:30 PM, with Rev. Walter Moll, assisted by Rev. Paul Lidtke officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:30 AM to the time of service. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. A memorial has been established.The family would like to thank Gabriels Villa, and Bethel Home special care unit for the special care given to our dad.
