Robert L. Schultz, age 86, died of cancer on Nov. 23, 2010 surrounded by members of his family at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg, WI. He was born on Dec. 23, 1923 in Hereford, Pa., the son of Homer and Lizzie Schultz. He grew up on the family farm, which had been in the Schultz family since 1746. After graduation from East Greenville (Pa.) High School, he attended Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pa., until he was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in World War II in the European Theater. After the war ended, he returned back to the United States on Jan. 1, 1946. He married the former Doris Alderfer on June 1, 1946 and returned to Ursinus, where he graduated with a degree in business in 1949. Bob and his family moved in 1956 to Oshkosh, where he worked for Waite Carpet Company as the manager of the custom carpet department. He moved to Deltox, Inc., in Oshkosh, as national sales manager before moving on to Roxbury Carpet Mfg. Co. as Midwest manager. He then worked for CPS Wholesale, a division of Carson Pirie Scott Co., in Chicago, Ill. This later became Florstar, Inc., as a result of a corporate buyout. He retired in 1993 as a contract manager and later worked part-time at Bergstrom Automotive in Oshkosh as a dealer-trade driver. He will be remembered by those who loved and knew him as a compassionate and giving man of deep faith who truly lived by the Golden Rule. He loved to drive all the highways of the Midwest states, listen to classical music while he read a good book, take long walks, golf, and spend time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also was an avid Badgers, Packers, Brewers and Bucks fan. Bob was a member of St. Johnâ?TMs Lutheran Church, where he served several terms on the congregation council and as council president. He also was a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris; two daughters, Susan (Richard) Hagen of Black Earth, WI., and Martha Metevelis of Strongsville, Ohio; and one son, Robert (Patricia) of Mount Horeb, WI.; five grandchildren, Scott (Lisa) Hagen, Mark (Niki) Hagen, Matthew (Marissa) Metevelis, Tim Metevelis and Elizabeth Schultz; three great grandchildren, Cole Hagen, Halli Hagen and Kaelyn Hagen; one sister, Lena (Waldo) Johnson of Souderton, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence; and sisters, Elsie Stauffer, Helen Stull, Lucy Shelly and Pauline Johnson. Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jennifer Czarnota officiating. Visitation will begin two hours before the service at St. Johns. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Johns. Bob was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed but happily remembered. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Carbone Cancer Center at the UW Hospital and Clinics in Madison and Mercy Medical Center and the many wonderful staff members at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center, as well as Pastor Czarnota, the pastoral staff at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Madison and the Rev.
