Robert Louis Rieckman

Robert Louis Rieckman, 85, died at his home Sunday, June 29, 2008 with his family at his side.Bob was born Oct. 22, 1922 in Morris, Min. to Herman and Emma (Brady) Rieckman. He grew up in Morris and attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Min. before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He served his country as a First Lieutenant and pilot in the Army Air Corps from March 1942 to March 1944. Bob flew twin-engine aircraft and later served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves as a Captain. After his military service, Bob graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in business administration.He met Margaret (Peggy) Stewart while stationed in Watertown S.D. during the war. They were married on Dec. 21, 1946.He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.Bob worked as a construction equipment salesman, retiring in 1989 from Lincoln Contractor Supply Company. He was an active member of St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church and its mens club, STAMP. He was a self-taught furniture maker and loved spending time in his woodshop making custom furniture for his family and friends. He was an avid golfer and gardener, spending hours caring for his lawn and landscaping.Bob is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Peggy; a son Stewart Allen (Donna) Rieckman and a daughter, Susan Marie Gerth; grandchildren Amy Elizabeth (Michael) Radtke, Bryan Jeffrey (SuAnn) Rieckman; Alison Schendel Gerth and Kenyon Stewart Gerth; great-grandchildren Andrew Jason and Molly Kendall Radtke and Gus Stewart Rieckman. He is further survived by a sister, Donna (Rod) Morrisette; sisters-in-law Adele Thomas and Caryl Stewart. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Robert Blake Rieckman, his sister Dorothy Branes and his sister-in-law Betty (Stewart) Rowden.A memorial service for Bob will be held Wednesday, July 2 at 7 p.m. at St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Reverend Karen Jewell officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.Bobs unconditional and unwavering love for his family, friends and church is his enduring legacy that enriches all who knew him and loved him.For everything there is a season...a time to be born and a time to die.
