Roger Hathaway was born on February 28, 1928 in Mason City, Iowa, to Shirley (Lincoln) and Glen Hathaway. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1946, and joined 25 other classmates in enlisting in the US Army to relieve WWII troops in foreign service. Upon completion of that enlistment, he entered Mason City Junior College, graduating in 1950.
He and Denese Bredall, daughter of Dewey and Myrtle Bredall, were married June 19, 1950. Roger was recalled to active duty from reserve status on October 3, 1950, following the outbreak of the Korean War, which started June 25, 1950. Following his release from active duty, he and Denese moved to Ames, Iowa, where he graduated from Iowa State University with his bachelor’s degree in 1953.
His working career included living in Milwaukee and Neenah, Wisconsin, Kankakee, Illinois, and back to Neenah in 1969. He joined Neenah Foundry Company back in 1971, and then retired in 1990 as Vice President of Human Resources. He felt very blessed to have wonderful and competent fellow workers, and felt he was extremely fortunate to have such a great boss in Bill Aylward.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Celeste Hathaway, Oshkosh, and her two children, Jonathon (Laura) Habighorst, Oconomowoc and Jodi (James) Bernicky and their two children Gavin and Genavive, Naperville, Illinois; his son, Craig (Dawn) Hathaway, Colleyville, Texas and their two children, Paige Hathaway, Hyattsville, Maryland, and Mason Hathaway, Colleyville, Texas. He is further survived by his half-sister Dana (Shroyer) and her husband Gary Jansen and family of Mason City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Denese, his parents; his step-father, Harold Shroyer; his sister, Patsy and her husband, Otto Lehmann, their sons, Jeffrey and James Lehmann; his grandparents, Addison and Anna Lincoln; his aunt and uncle, Lenis and Raymond Willson.
