Roger Leroy Messing

Roger LeRoy Satch Messing, age 80, died on Saturday, August 30, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully with family by his side at Aurora Medical Center. He was born on March 22, 1934 in Oshkosh to Aubrey and Agnes (Walker) Messing. He married Rita Neuman on October 20, 2004 in Oshkosh.Roger honorably served his country in the US Army. He worked for Axle/Rockwell International as a machine operator from 1959 until his retirement in 1992. After retiring Roger worked as a bartender for nineteen years. He was a member of Martin Luther Church, American Legion, AMVETS, the DAV, and also the Elks Club.He enjoyed many friendships over the years. He also enjoyed his gardening, boating, woodworking, fishing, and especially music and dancing.Roger is survived by his wife, Rita; his five children, Michael (Bev) Messing, Kathy (Pete) Schulze, Jimmy (LuAnn) Messing, Cherie-Lynn (Dan) Gabrilska, and Thomas Messing; step sons, Mike Miller and Steve Schani; step daughters, Kathy (Don) Hunt and Midge Schani; adopted daughters, Rebecca Cadena and Rachael Ludtke; seventeen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Aubrey Messing; sister, Faye (Don) Miller; and sister in law, Carol Messing. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Martin Luther Church (1526 Algoma Blvd) with Rev. Jeffrey Berg and Rev. Nathan Ericson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. Following the service there will be full military honors held at the church.Donations may be made out to the Martin Luther School or to the Elks Club for the Christmas charity baskets in Rogers name.Rogers family would like to thank the staff of Aurora Hospice and Aurora Medical Center for all the love and care they provided.
