Rose Marie Esslinger was born June 29, 1926 to Frank LeRoy and Mary Yanko Wagner at home. She was baptized, 1st Communion, Solemn Communion, Confirmation and education at Sacred Heart Catholic School and Church now St. Jude the Apostle. She graduated from 8th grade in June 1940, graduated from the new South Park Jr. High School in June of 1941, and Oshkosh High School in June of 1944.She worked at Neubergers Dress Shop, Oshkosh Overall, Kresge Dime Store, and Sears Roebuck & Co.She married Daniel I. Esslinger on November 12, 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Reverend David Bunkleman witnessed the wedding. She then joined St. Vincent de Paul, her husbands parish, now known as St. Jude the Apostle Parish. Dan preceded her in death Nov. 11, 2002.She was a former member of Christian Women, the Arch Confraternity of Christian Women, and was recording secretary of Christian Women. She was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Queen of Peace Rosary Makers. Rose loved making rosaries for mission, family, and friends. She enjoyed music, poetry, writing her own poems, crossword puzzles, cryptograms, and math logic puzzles. She is survived by two sons Dennis M. Esslinger of Little Chute and Patrick (Tamara) Esslinger of Oshkosh; four granddaughters Kelly (Andrew) Krajnik of Romeoville, IL, Susan (William X) Mattert of West Baraboo, WI, Tami Lynn Esslinger (friend Adam McBrody) of Minneapolis, MN, and Grayson Rose Esslinger of Oshkosh; one great-grandson William Paul Mattert XI of West Baraboo, WI; two brothers Leonard (Jackie) Wagner of Oshkosh and Robert (Martha) Wagner of Ingleside, IL; two sisters-in-law Gloria (Robert) Prisk of Beaver Dam, WI and Ethel Wagner of Pembroke Pines, FL; a special niece Cynthia Schaefer; a special friend Teresa Ostertag; many uncles, aunts, nieces, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan, her parents, a brother, Donald Wagner, a nephew and godchild, Richard Wagner, a great-nephew, Mitchell Wagner, and a sister-in-law, Irna Wagner. A memorial mass for Rose will be held Saturday January 10, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Jude Parish (St. Vincent Church), 1225 Oregon St., with Fr. William Van De Kreeke officiating. Inurnment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society or to Agnesian Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac would be appreciated in Roses name.Special thank you to the staff at Mercy Medical Center, and at the Agnesian Hospice Home of Hope and Drs. Beckett, Gremminger and Horon for their wonderful care of our mother.Rose always put others before herself, and was a role model and Mom or Grandma to many. Her love, kindness and thoughtfulness will truly be missed.
