Roy R. Biebel

Roy R. Biebel, age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, July 31, 2022.  He was preceded in death by Patricia J. Biebel (nee Johnston), his long-time business associate, travel companion, bridge partner, soul mate and wife of 63 years. They were long-time residents of Oshkosh and maintained homes in Green Lake, Wisconsin and Punta Gorda Isles, Florida.

At various times, Roy served on the city councils of Oshkosh and Green Lake.  Roy and Patricia were members of several bridge clubs, the Oshkosh and Punta Gorda Yacht Clubs, Edgewater Club and the Oshkosh Ski Club.

Born in Oshkosh, Roy was the eldest of three sons (brothers Harold and Donald) of Roy A. and Clara Biebel (nee Reif).  In his youth, Roy pursued his love of sailing, racing his Snipe with the Oshkosh Yacht Club. He served in the U.S. Army in the early-1950s.  He and Patsy were married March 1, 1952, in Oshkosh.  Over the next eight years, they brought six more Biebels into the world: Mary Mahr, Peter (Jane) Biebel, Thomas (Karen) Biebel, Daniel (Kathy) Biebel, James (Domenic Scarpulla) Biebel and John (Karen) Biebel.  Together they ran a grocery store on South Oregon Street in Oshkosh, a business they later expanded to include two stores in Beaver Dam and one in Wautoma.

During their retirement, the couple enjoyed their love of travel and undertook to nurture, educate and spoil ten grandchildren: Emily (Mahr) Toppert, Elizabeth (Mahr) Kahle, Sara Biebel, Matthew Biebel, Derek (Shelby Darr) Biebel, Margaret Biebel, Patrick (Caycie Bray) Biebel, Gretchen Biebel, Casey (Biebel) Haverkamp, and Rowan Biebel and seven great grandchildren.

You had a great life, Dad, and provided one for us.  You will be missed.  Thanks for everything.

Per Roy’s wishes, a private family service was held.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Roy and Patricia's name to the ALS Association - Wisconsin Chapter.
