Ruth E. Hanke, age 93, of Evergreen Retirement Community, Oshkosh, died unexpectedly Wednesday November 26, 2008 at Aurora Medical Center. Ruth was born September 9, 1915 in Oshkosh to the late Frank and Ida (Kamp) Klabunde. She graduated from Oshkosh High School Class of 1933 and Oshkosh State Teachers College June 5, 1936. After she graduated she taught school for the Fond du Lac school system, Sheboygan school system and the Kaukauna school system as an elementary teacher. She also attended University of Wisconsin – Madison, where she was enrolled in a masters program. On June 25, 1946 she married Harold Hanke of the Town of Elderon, Marathon County, at First English Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. She enjoyed baking, cooking, volunteer work, church choir, church activities and in the later years bingo at Evergreen, but most of all her family and her infinite ability to care for people. She enjoyed traveling and had many wonderful trips with Harold. Survivors include her son, Dale (Kathy Sloan) Hanke of Manitowoc, and their children, Aaron of St. Paul, MN and Phillip of St. Paul, MN, daughter-in-law, Chris (Kallas) Hanke of Oshkosh, and her daughter, Keri and her fianc Jason Rentmeester of DePere. She is further survived by her brother Ray Klabunde of Milwaukee, one brother-in-law Donald (Dorothy) Hanke of the Town of Elderon, five sisters-in-laws, Verna Tesch of Wausau, Gladys Cameron of Tripoli, Carol Patton of Wausau, Rose Mielke of Seymour, and Lorraine (Sheldon) Zoelk of Appleton and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold and her son Paul, her parents, one sister-in-law Violet Ranke of Birnamwood and eight brother-in-laws, Alfred Swede Hanke, Gordon Hanke, Raymond Hanke, Bob Cameron, Bob Mielke, J.W. Patton, Harold Ranke and Ray Tesch.The funeral services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2008 at 11:00 AM at First English Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, the Rev. Nancy Krueger officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 10:00am until the time of the service, burial to follow at Lake View Memorial Park.The Hanke family wishes to express a very special thank you to the entire staff at Evergreen for the special care and comfort given to Ruth. May she rest in peace.In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established at First English Lutheran Church.
