Ruth Helen Hitchcock, 81, of Oshkosh, passed away on January 5, 2006. She was born in Oshkosh, June 10, 1924 to Fred and Harriet (Lang) Rasmussen. Ruth married C. Richard Dick Hitchcock Jr. on October 9, 1948. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1983. Ruth earned her high school diploma from Oshkosh High School later in life, attending classes along side her nieces and nephews. She worked at A & P Grocery in Oshkosh as a bookkeeper. With the encouragement of her devoted husband, Dick, she graduated Mercy Medical School of Nursing, and went on to the University of Wisconson Oshkosh School of Nursing, and earned her Bachelors degree. She worked her entire career at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh. Ruth volunteered her time for 18 years at Mercy Medical Center Passport 55, the Bethel Home gift shop, the Grand Opera House, and was a resident board member for Bethel Home. Ruth had a faith that inspired many through out her life and was nurtured by her church family at Our Saviors Lutheran Church where she was a lifelong member; Ruth enjoyed traveling the world, attending the symphony, gardening, and reading her Bible daily. She possessed the uncanny ability to stay up to date on the lives of her many family members and friends and kept them in her prayers daily. Ruth knew what a life following Jesus was really about. Ruth lived a life guided by Jesus Christ which was demonstrated by her devotion to God and love for those around her. Ruth is survived by two sisters, Margaret (Efraim) Pedersen of Kenmare, ND, and Evelyn (Richard) Lesch of Phoenix, AZ, three brothers, Fredric of Ventura, CA, Harley (Marion) of Montello, WI, and Earl (Donna) of Oshkosh, a brother-in-law, Ed Conyers of Federal Way, WA, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Bethel Home, and Mercy Medical Center. Ruth touched the lives of many and will be sadly missed. The world is a better place because of Ruth Hitchcock. There is certain sweetness to sending a loved one to be with the Lord, even though the loss is incredible. If God views the death of his Saints as precious – so should we, knowing she is in the presence of Almighty God and communing with the Lord forever. She has run the race set before her and persevered (Hebrews 12:1) and it is time to let her win and for us to rejoice in it.
