Information Systems Technician First Class Petty Officer, Sandra Irene (Bachman) McHugh, United States Navy (Retired) of Oshkosh, WI passed away on December 17, 2007 at her home following a nine year battle with Breast Cancer; she was 52.She was born September 30, 1955 in Allentown PA to James and Evelyn (Berkenstock) Bachman and was a 1973 graduate of Parkland High School in Orefield, PA. She served in the United States Navy on active duty from May 1980 until her retirement in May 2000 after the completion of 20 years of honorable service. On February 23, 1985 she married Richard McHugh in a beautiful ceremony in the hills of Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii overlooking Honolulu and the surrounding area. Her shore duty assignments included a tour of duty at the Intelligence Center Pacific, as a computer operator and production control specialist providing highly classified intelligence information to the President of the United States, National Command Authorities, Commander-in- Chief United States Pacific Command and all Pacific area commands, staff duty with the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington DC, as a computer programmer writing/running various programs that determined how many Officers and Enlisted personnel were promoted/advanced each year on active duty and in the reserves, Cruise Missile Support Activity in Norfolk, VA, where she provided Nuclear and Conventional Tomahawk Cruise Missile mission plans/updates to fleet operational units as required during Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm, NATO staff duty with the Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic in Norfolk, VA as a ADP Security Specialist and Naval Telecommunications Station in Norfolk, VA, when assigned in a Limited Duty status while being treated with breast cancer from Sept 1998 - May 2000 until she retired.Her operational sea duty assignment was onboard USS EMORY S. LAND (AS 39), asubmarine tender home-ported in Norfolk VA, while assigned to the repair division, she workedon communication/information technology systems onboard Nuclear Fast Attack Submarines.Her personal/unit decorations included the Joint Service Commendation Medal (threeawards) for meritorious service. Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy BattleEfficiency E, Joint Meritorious Unit Award (three awards). Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Good Conduct Medal (five awards), and the National Defense ServiceMedal.Upon retirement from active duty, her family moved to the Oshkosh area and she was employed with the law firm of Yakes, Bauer, Kindt and Phillips, and Wal-Mart. Her husband, Chief Warrant Officer Richard McHugh, United States Navy (Retired), her daughter Ashley McHugh and her son Private Andrew McHugh, United States Army, survive her. She is further survived by her mother Evelyn Bachman of Bethlehem, PA her Stepmother Pat Bachman of Duncan AZ, her brothers, Richard Bachman of Bethlehem PA, Robert (Gloria) Bachman of Rochdale, MA, Ronald (Debbie) Bachman of Spencer, MA, and her sister Geraldine (Dean) Hartranft of Bethlehem PA, her Mother-in-Law Judith Reinders of Oshkosh and her Father-in-Law Richard Reinders of Neenah, Brother-in-Laws, Randy Reinders, Ron (Laura) Reinders, Russ(Carol) Reinders, Robert Reinders, Ray (Tina) Reinders, Sister-in-Laws, Tracey Reinders andDawn Due (Special Friend Jeff) and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews. She waspreceded in death by her father James Bachman and her nephew Jason Hartranft. A funeral with full military honors will be conducted on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 10:00 AM at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home (Westside) with the Rev. Cark Knitt officiating. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and on Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Jen and Johanna from Aurora Visiting Nurses for their dedication to Sandras special needs as they arose, the hourly employees at Wal-Mart in Oshkosh for their loving support each day and for the beautiful quilt they made to keep her warm. Dr.John Weber, his nurse Molly, and the nursing staff of 2 North at Aurora Hospital for their loving care while she was in the hospital. CAPTAIN Martin Snyder USN, and COMMANDER Marsha Fink USN and the Staff at Portsmouth Naval Hospital for their superb dedication to helping people with cancer while on active duty, retired or their family members and thus allowing Sandra a number of additional years to enjoy life with her family members and friends. Additionally, special thanks to Joyce, Pam, Janice, and Kris, the morning coffee group (Dennis, Eric, Carl, Steve, Al, Auggie, Dick and Zee) for allowing her to be a part of your days, and Linda from Home Instead for being so caring and understanding of her needs and wants.
