Sandra Jean “Sandee” Nelson, 75, died on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at her residence in Oshkosh. Sandee was born on August 23, 1942, in Oshkosh, the daughter of George and Ruth (Oxholm) Sheffer. She was a graduate of Oshkosh High School and Fox Valley Technical Institute’s Licensed Practical Nursing School. In 1963 she was united in marriage to Louis Porst of Omro at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Oshkosh. There were four children born of that union, Laurie (Roger Knudson) of Westbrook, MN, Lynne Gruel, Jason (Robin) Porst and twin Joel Porst all of Oshkosh. On March 13, 1982, she was united in marriage to Robert W. Nelson at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Oshkosh.
Sandee was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior Lutheran Church, of which she is still a member. She was a member of the Tuesday night cribbage league for many years, a league of which her mother was a founding member. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crafts, cooking for numerous family gatherings, spending time with grandchildren, and trips to Tunica, MS.
Sandee is survived by her husband, Robert; her four children; Roberts daughter Kirby Nelson (fiancé Jim Hanseder); eight grandchildren, Katlyn Gruel, Jacob Gruel, Erik Knudson, Zachary Knudson, Lindsay Porst, Selena Peters, Lillian Peters, and Lyric Hanseder. She is further survived by three sisters, Rev. Sue (Tom) Sheffer-Meyer, Sheila Alvarez, and Barbara (Karl) Wege; and a brother, Steven (Sue) Sheffer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Richard Fuchs; a brother-in-law, Alfonso Alvarez; a sister-in-law, Darlene Sheffer; and an uncle, Norman Oxholm and his wife Beatrice.
A funeral service for Sandee will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1860 Wisconsin Street – Oshkosh, on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Jan Veseth officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m until the service time. Burial will be Monday in Lake View Memorial Park.
Memorial donations in Sandee’s name, in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
