Sandra (Sandy) L. (Merkel) Kienert age 77, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17th, 2025 at Bethel home where she had resided for the past 2 years. She was born to the late William Merkel and Beatrice (Ceelen) Getchel on July 2, 1947, in Oshkosh. She married Darwin Kienert on May 21, 1983. He preceded her in death in 2011.
She worked as a switchboard operator for 38 years at Lenox Candles.
Darwin and Sandy also owned and operated Tuffy's Tavern from 1982 till 1991.
Her favorite pastime was playing cribbage, where you could find her at any cribbage tournament in Oshkosh or with anyone that just wanted to play.
Sandy is survived by her children, Tim (Becky) Sawicki, Lori Ulrich, Lisa Busby (Robert Davies); grandsons, Justin Sawicki (Mira Kaetzel) and Blake Busby; as well as her sisters Denise (Gary) Griedl and Corine Roberts and several nieces and nephews. Along with her special friends Kay and Sheila.
In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin Kienert, brother Thomas Merkel and infant sister Susan.
Thank you to the staff and volunteers at Bethel Home for taking such great care of mom over the past 2 years.
A celebration of life will be held on February 27, at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-Westside (100 Lake Pointe Dr) from 2PM until 4PM.
A memorial has been established for the Boys & Girls Club, Oshkosh, WI.
