The angels put their arms around Sandra "Sandy" J. (Scray) Rich, age 85, on Friday, September 20, 2024.
Sandra was born on June 25, 1939, to the late Leo and Martha Scray. Born the third of eight children, surrounded by the overwhelming love of a farming family.
She chose a life of the Sisters of Notre Dame, then went to the Sisters of Saint Francis of Bay Settlement for 25 years. During this time she received various teaching degrees from Saint Norbert College in DePere, WI. Hundreds of childrens' lives were touched by Sandra throughout this time by her heartfelt dedication and love for each child. At age 21 she taught as many as 50 children in one class!
Her life took her on an unexpected journey when she fell in love with Erwin (Frank) Rich. They married on August 14, 1982 and they shared 32 wonderful years together. She welcomed Frank's children and grandchildren with open arms. Their marriage was envied. They enjoyed playing bridge, square dancing, and golfing together. She was also the President of the Women's Golf League at Westhaven Golf Course for a year or two.
Sandy was a devoted donor for the American Red Cross and participated in several extensive studies with the Women's Health Initiative of Madison.
Sandra always considered herself blessed to be one of the founders and members of the A.M. Women's Spirituality Group of Saint Raphael's Church in Oshkosh, WI. Each of these women were dear friends.
Her wit was priceless! When our sis was not doing her needlework she was traveling with us and making incredible memories. These are trips we will treasure forever. Sis will be sadly missed!
She is survived by her sisters, Janet Gudex, Diane Martin, Karen Nowak, Cindy Mariucci and Gail (Mark) Gallo; sisters-in-law, Clarice (Don) Lemmens and Mary Scray; and many loved nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Sandra was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank Rich; brothers, Leon Scray and Clyde Scray; brothers-in-Law, Dan Nowak, Ken Martin and Howard Gudex; and close family friend, Butch Schiedemeyer.
Family and friends may gather for visitation on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 10:00 AM till 11:00 AM at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 830 South Westhaven Drive, Oshkosh, WI. Mass to follow at 11:00 AM, with Fr. Tom Long officiating. Interment will take place at the Omro Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sandra's name may be made out to the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Association.
