Shirleen Rescheske was called to come home on August 10, 2021, at the age of 89 and is at peace by the one that she prayed to every night as her faith was strong. She was born in Oshkosh February 24, 1932, to Frank and Agnes (Thiele) Praxl. Shirleen was united in marriage to Ralph Rescheske on October 4, 1952, at Sacred Heart in Oshkosh.
Shirleen was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother first and foremost. She also treasured her kitty that provided her with great comfort whenever she was sad. Shirleen retired from Advertising Letter Service after more than 30 years as a printing press operator. It was easy for her to make friends everywhere she went, and she especially loved her role in her later years as the flower lady at Red’s Piggly Wiggly where they gave her the nickname of Sparky that perfectly matched her personality.
Until her health condition made it impossible, she enjoyed visiting area stores, and helping at family garage sales as well as revisiting the memories of traveling with Doug to browse for the valued treasures of others as she might find that special something. She loved entertaining family and friends and just having fun with those that were closest to her. Shirleen spoke often of the friendship and kindness of her special close neighbors and friends and how much each one of them meant to her.
She was a very creative and talented artist that was evident in her many original drawings of buildings and people. One of the original building drawings that she drew as a teenager was made into a calendar over 30 years later and distributed in the city of Oshkosh. Throughout the years she enjoyed ice skating, roller skating, sewing, and cooking. She especially loved growing and tending plants and flowers as she not only had a green thumb but believed that they grow better if you talk to them. This is an example of her humor and love of life. Making herself and others laugh was predominant throughout her life. She also enjoyed the simple pleasures that included the beautiful sunrises, sunsets and wildlife that were visible from her front windows from her Omro home.
Shirleen is survived by her daughter, Pam Gonzales (Doug Smith); grandson, Steven Gonzales (Nya Barrett); sister-in-law, Ruth Rescheske; and brother-in-law, John Bruun. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Ralph Rescheske; son-in-law, Arlen (Speedy) Gonzales, and her parents.
The family would like to express a special thanks for the compassion and care that was provided by the Aurora at Home personnel. Their visits were looked forward to by Shirleen as she could be herself and express her feelings as easily as she did with her immediate family. We also would like to acknowledge the love and companionship that was provided to Shirleen by her friends, family members and neighbors throughout her illness.
A service for Shirleen will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 13 ,2021 at Konrad Funeral Home, 100 Lake Pointe Drive, Oshkosh. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 am until time of service. Burial will take place at Lake View Memorial Park.
