On Saturday, December 5th, 2020, Shirley M. Henning-Clark-Artz passed peacefully at the age of 90.
Shirley was born July 16, 1930 to Virgil and Margaret Bean, who along with her brother Roger preceded her in death. She earned her nursing degree in 1951, working at Mercy Medical until 1958. She married Russell Henning in October 1951. She is survived by their six children, Jay (Rick), Mary, Russell (Debbie), Robert (Carrie), Julie (Randy), and David (Alice).
After Russ’ passing in 1997, she helped care for her mother, leading to meeting Don Clark of Cleveland, Ohio. They married in 2001 and had 15 years of happiness living initially in Cleveland, returning to Oshkosh until his death in 2016. She was blessed to find happiness a third time meeting Don Artz in 2017. They were married until his death in 2019. With the Henning, Clark and Artz extended families, “Nana” brought love to 13 direct descendant grandchildren and two great grandchildren, 10 stepchildren, and an additional 26 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren.
Shirley was a caregiver by nature and a nurse by profession choosing to work in the obstetrics ward with premature babies. She volunteered teaching elementary kids to read, counseling for a pregnancy hotline, and many school functions. Her Catholic faith formed the foundation of how she lived and guided her to finding happiness when later remarrying. She was a loving mother who saved her yelling for watching the Packers. The love she grew and shared with so many is now ours to continue sharing with the world.
A private cryptside service was held at Lake View Memorial Park on December 10th. Formal services are expected in summer of 2021.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Alzheimer’s Association or your local Hospice Foundation are appreciated.
