Shirley Verhoeven, age 89, of Oshkosh, WI, entered eternal rest Wednesday, March 29th in Lakewood Ranch, FL, after a brief illness with her family present.
Born June 2nd 1927, in Oshkosh, WI, she was preceded in death by her parents: Wesley and Vera Roycraft; her dear sister: Carol Himmerich; aunts and uncles: Lorraine and Ed Fiedler and Leone and Raymond Feidler.
Survivors include her husband: Richard; three children: Steve Verhoeven, Rick Verhoeven and Patti (Richard) Verhoeven-Provost; sister: Marna Jenson; Rev. Fred M. Himmerich; many nieces and nephews; and three grandchildren.
Shirley worked for Robert Baird Co., Lennox Candle Corp. She loved to type, sing, dance, play the piano and sew. Her artistic creations were enjoyed throughout the Oshkosh Community over several decades. She provided props, scenery, costumes, curtains, puppets, sewing for numerous performances including those of High School Musicals, community plays, Musicale Inc. and both Miss Oshkosh and Miss Wisconsin pageants. She was the backbone of “Richard’s School of the Dance” for 60 years. She liked to make people smile. She gave to all, but herself her entire life.
In honor of Shirley’s wishes, a private service was held at Lake View Memorial Park-Mausoleum, in Oshkosh. A memorial has been established.
It was Shirley’s special request, for those whose life she touched, to donate to a cause involving children for art, music or dance while taking a moment to enjoy your favorite piece of candy with a smiling memory of her singing. “Always look on the bright side of life.”
