Stan Cichowski was born in Chicago, IL on October 7, 1946, to Joseph and Dorothy Cichowski. He spent his childhood moving around the country. Stan attended Hamline University in St. Paul, MN, majoring in history, serving as co-captain of the swim team, and graduating in 1968. While at Hamline he met his future wife, Frances Sacco. Stan and Fran were married on June 20, 1970, at St. Odilia Church in Shoreview, MN. The newlyweds “honeymooned” in scenic Ft. Bragg, NC, as Stan had enlisted in the US Army.
Stan served in the Army from 1968 to 2006, serving two stints of active duty and several years in the Reserves. His active duty service included time with military intelligence and a stint in Tehran as part of the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. In 1976 he and Fran adopted their only child, Jennifer.
During his time in the Reserves, he also taught classes for the Combined Arms Services and Staff School, graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1974, and earned his pilot’s license. At the time of his retirement from the military, he had achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
After returning to the United States, he and his family settled in Springfield, IL in the spring of 1979. Stan took a job as a tax attorney at the Illinois Department of Revenue (“IDOR”), eventually being promoted to Deputy General Counsel.
His next move was to Flossmoor, IL as a tax consultant at Deloitte & Touche in 1994. Stan was eventually promoted to Managing Director. He taught part-time as an Adjunct Instructor at the College of Business MST, University of Illinois from 2007-2014. After retiring from Deloitte in 2010, he worked part-time as a Hearing Officer at IDOR, from 2011-2013.
Stan retired for good in 2013 and moved to Wisconsin where he could realize his dream of living on a lake. He also had a lifelong love of airplanes and enjoyed attending the Oshkosh Air Show and being a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 252.
He enjoyed telling a good story, woodworking, fly fishing, sipping a fine Scotch, and spending time with his family. He was a member and past president of Trout Unlimited – Central Wisconsin and a member of the Corvette Club.
