Sylvester Propson

Sylvester M. Propson, 97, of Oshkosh died Tuesday December 23, 2008 at Evergreen Retirement Community-Creekview. He was born October 29, 1911 in Chilton, WI a son of the late Albert W. and Louise Schwobe Propson. Sylvester married Lorna A. Zemke on Sept. 14, 1934 in Waukegan, IL. She preceded him in death on January 3, 1991. Mr. Propson received his professional credentials from the University of Wisconsin Madison. He interned with the Rennebohm Drug Company in Madison, managed for the Liggett Drug Company in La Crosse and subsequently located in Oshkosh for the opportunity to purchase his own Pharmacy. He was a member of The American Pharmaceutical Association, The Wisconsin Pharmaceutical Association, and a charter member of The Academy of General Practice of Pharmacy. During his career he received many awards; among which were recognition from The University of Wisconsin Extension Division for participation in the Pharmacy Preceptor Institute, a seminar for pharmaceutical services in extended care facilities and small hospitals. He also studied Advances in Pharmacology.Mr. Propson was a member of the Masonic Lodge for sixty-five years, a member of the Mystic Shrine since 1956 and a supporter of the Shriners Childrens Hospital. He was also an active member of the Elks Club and the Optimist club. Survivors include a son Richard (Gloria) of Princeton, MN, a daughter Gail of Oshkosh, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. A Masonic and funeral service for Sylvester will be held Friday Dec. 26, 2008 at 3:00 PM at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2 PM until the service. Entombment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. Memorials are preferred to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society.
