Theodore H. Irion

Theodore H. Irion died on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at the age of 100. He was the son of Rev. Theodore and Hulda (nee Kempein) Irion. He was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on Oct. 10, 1909 where he spent his entire life until the passing of his wife in June 2009. He then moved to Dogwood Forest Assisted Living in Stockbridge, GA. In July 2009 to be closer to his family. On October 1st, 1936, he married Hildegarde Wetzeler, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. William Wetzeler of Appleton, Wl. After graduating with honors from Armour Institute of Technology in Chicago, he returned to Oshkosh and received his architects license. He worked in a local office for several years before opening his own office with a long time friend. The architectural firm of Irion and Reinke designed many schools, churches and other structures in the area, including the University Polk Library, the YMCA - Eastside and the Post Office. Their office won state and national recognition, and their work was published in several national magazines.Throughout his active life, Mr. Irion was associated with St. Pauls United Church of Christ as secretary and President of the Church Council, teacher and superintendent of the Sunday school, the choir and various committees and organizations of the church.Mr. Irion was interested in photography, accumulating thousands of slides which he made into sound-visual programs presented to many area groups. Upon his retirement as an architect, he developed and manufactured an optical device used by commercial artists which he distributed nationally. He was also interested in painting and his work is hung in private collections throughout the country.He was preceded in death by his wife, Hildegarde and is survived by his son John (Tammy) Irion, Atlanta, GA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ (1250 Leonard's Point Road) at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Brian Tokopf officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, February 26, 2010 at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home - Westside (100 Lake Pointe Drive) from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and again at the church on Saturday from 12:00 (Noon) until the service time. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
