Thomas Jay Swanson, age 49, of Neenah, passed away on Tuesday December 17, 2019 surrounded by his family and loved ones after a short struggle with cancer. He was born on May 11, 1970 in Neenah to George and Irmgard (Buehring) Swanson. Tom was a 1988 graduate of Neenah High School. He furthered his education toward a Carpenters Apprenticeship at Fox Valley Technical College. On June 10, 1999 he married Cynthia Cook.
Tom was a life long member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Neenah and had worked for Edward Kraemer & Sons - Kraemer North America for over 30 years. He was the Area Equipment Coordinator for the Minnesota/Wisconsin Region. He enjoyed volunteering for the Boys & Girls Brigade in Neenah as a Rough Craftsmen, cutting holes for sturgeon spearing and was a leader at Camp Onaway. He looked forward to hunting with the guys in Wyoming and Wisconsin, and cheering for his children at
their sporting events. Tom was a member of the Twin City Rod and Gun and the Carpenters Union Local 955.
Tom is survived by his wife Cynthia, his children Colleen, Marie and Thomas; grandchildren: Kairi and Kyrian Pace. Tom is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Nancy Swanson, Steve (Eileen) Swanson, Gary (Kim) Swanson, Debbie (Dick) Smith, Pam (Jay) Olson, Mark (Pam) Swanson, James (Penny Schuelke) Swanson, Carla (Rick) Thayer, Joan Terry, Kathy (Mark) Justison and Dawn (Joel) Ortiz, sisters-in-law Julie Swanson, Kimberly Kennedy and mother-in-law Carolyn Cook. He was God Father to Ben Olson and Amanda Schmelzer. Tom will be
missed by his many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and great nephews; numerous cousins and special friends Mark and Chris Schmelzer and Dennis Maney.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Irmgard Swanson and his brother Jon Swanson.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 12:00 PM at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1140 Tullar Rd., Neenah. Visitation will be Saturday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Neenah.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the Oncology staff and nurses on the 6th floor at Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah and to Suzette who was Thomas’s personal oncology nurse.
A memorial has been established in his name.
