Thomas R. Joanis of Omro passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center at the age of 71. He was born in La Crosse, WI to Gladys and Robert Joanis who preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife, June; one son, Jayme (Cara) Schmidt of Oshkosh; and two daughters, Jaclyn Mabry (Adam Frisque) of Neenah and Elizabeth Joanis of Wauwatosa. He is further survived by three grandchildren whom he loved very much, Zachary Mabry, and Stella and Waylon Schmidt. He is also survived by a brother, David (Suzanne) Joanis of Madison, Trisha (Mark) Thompson of Cuba City, together with many nieces and nephews.
Tom retired as a social worker from D.A.C.C. after working there for many years. He has been involved in the percussion section of the Oshkosh Area Community Band for 20 years. His latest endeavor was as a volunteer for the Oshkosh Celebration of Lights. He came home every day telling his family how much he enjoyed working there. He loved the camaraderie and working outside. Tom’s personality was as bright as any light display.
His greatest accomplishment and pride was in his three children and grandchildren. He enjoyed family events and kid’s concerts. He also loved helping Jennifer Eichmann Jordan with the little jobs at the Cheese House in Omro and talking with all the customers. She became a part of our family.
