Thomas “Tom” E. Steckbauer, age 72, of Oshkosh, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 19, 2021 of cardiac arrest. He was born in Oshkosh on March 1, 1949 to Eugene and Kathleen Steckbauer. Tom graduated from Lourdes High School and attended Ripon College and UW-Oshkosh to further his education. He served In the Army National Guard. He deeply loved God throughout his life and was a devout Catholic rarely missing a Saturday service. For most his career, he worked in food service sales. He had an outgoing nature and could strike up conversation with anyone. If you met him, you would never forget him. Tom enjoyed boating and loved going across the lake on a calm night. Judy and Tom enjoyed going to Packer games for many years. Later in life, he enjoyed the Packer games from home. He also enjoyed running errands for his family (especially to Sam’s Club and Costco), going out with Judy or meeting friends and having a good meal, and spending time with his dogs. He had strong political beliefs and was happy to share them! Tom was happiest sitting on his deck, grilling out and sharing a glass of wine with his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Judy, of 36 years, who he loved dearly. He is further survived by his sister, Carol Schuenke (partner Jim Hofmann), and brother, Jim Steckbauer, sister-in-law, Carol Kossel, sister and brother-in-law Robert and Joan Wolff Jr. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be greatly missed by his dogs: Ellie and Tinker.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Richard and Lois Kossel, and brother-in-law, James Kossel.
Tom was a practical, unselfish, generous, loving man who enjoyed when those around him were happy and doing well. His jovial spirit and quick wit and smile will be missed by all who knew him, especially his wife Judy and the rest of his family.
