Todd R. Rasmussen

March 10, 1960 — June 5, 2023

Todd’s life story is a true example of the American dream. He came from humble beginnings, and went on to soar to the highest of heights.

Todd was born in Muskegon, Michigan to Thomas & Bonnie Rasmussen on March 10, 1960. As a youngster, Todd developed a passion for engines and mechanics when he and his brother Gary would take apart old cars and learn to put them back together. This is when his dream of flying airplanes was born. He graduated from Fruitport High School in 1978, and would go on to earn a degree in Aviation Science from Utah Valley State, receiving high honors. In a career that spanned over 30 years, he worked for Midstate Airlines, Air Wisconsin, Reno Air, and United Airlines. His passion grew as he climbed the ranks all the way up to successful commercial airline captain. He loved and was proud of his career. It offered him the opportunity to travel the entire world.

One of Todd’s favorite Bible verses was Luke 12:48 which reads: “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” Todd understood the meaning of this verse very well. As an airline pilot, his passengers put all of their trust in him to provide a safe and successful flight. And he always delivered on that trust. He also lived by the same standard in fulfilling his role as his family’s provider.

His love affair with flying was surpassed only by the love he had for his family. Despite his many accomplishments and accolades as a pilot, he was most proud of his two children, Aly and Gabe. Among the many values and traits he instilled in them are a strong work ethic, determination, humility, and a love for God and family.

He is survived by his two children Aly (Martin) Treu and Gabe Rasmussen, his mother Bonnie Rasmussen, brother Gary (Betty) Rasmussen, and the mother to his children and love of his life, Sarah. He will also be greatly missed by his many other family and friends. Among others, his father Tom was one of the first to greet him in Heaven.
