On October 28, 2011, Todd Steven Retzlaff, age 43, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Oshkosh, WI. Todd was born on June 4, 1968 and raised in Appleton, WI. All of his life he was dedicated to helping others. Even in elementary school he was in safety patrol, back then already helping to keep kids safe. He took very seriously any responsibility that was given to him, even as a child.Todd graduated from Appleton West High School, where he was involved in cross-county and track; he volunteered for groups such as Peer Mediators and SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving). After high school, Todd initially wanted to be a paramedic and pursued this for a few years, spending time working for Gold Cross and helping many people with medical emergencies. Todd went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh with a bachelor of Social Work Degree. He was currently enrolled in the Masters of Social Work Program through UW-Oshkosh and Green Bay.Todd started his career working with At-Risk teens at Youth-Go in Neenah, WI. He went on to work for Winnebago County Human Services as a Social Worker for the past 13 plus years. He dedicated his life to helping children and families have better lives. He was passionate about the work he did and would do anything he could to keep children safe. For the past eight years he also did on-call crisis Social Work, going out at all hours of the night, weekends, and holidays to emergency situations in order to help children.Todd loved working in his yard, cruising on his riding lawn mower with his baby girl Kyla. He was immensely proud of his son Keegan. They loved doing fireworks together, (its in our blood) and going on crazy long bike rides. Todds children, Keegan Davis Retzlaff (15) and Kyla Jean Retzlaff (8), were the absolute loves and joy of his life.Todd loved to travel and the highlight of this was the amazing trip he and his wife Heather took to Hawaii to celebrate their ten year anniversary. Todd looked forward to the day he could go back and share this with his children. Todd and Heather spent many happy times together in Florida and at the cottage swimming, riding motorcycles, having bonfires, playing cards and just spending time together.Todd is survived by his beloved children Keegan and Kyla Retzlaff and his wife Heather of Oshkosh.
