He preceded her in death in October 1972.Being married to a serviceman, mom lived in lots of different places and had ample opportunities to entertain officers and their wives. She loved being a hostess and making fancy desserts and homecooked meals. She made lots of friends wherever she lived and kept in touch with them for many years. Mom was baptized and confirmed in New Bethel Evangelical Church, which was located next to the family farmhouse in Black Wolf. She later became a member of the Church of Nazarene, where she attended Bible studies, minded the nursery and loved corresponding with missionaries. After its closing, mom made the First Baptist Temple her church home until she could no longer make it up the church steps. What mom enjoyed most was being a mom, a grandma, and a great-grandma. She was always there when we needed her. Shes crocheted lots of afgans, hooked many rugs, sent tons of cards and even enjoyed ironing! As long as she was able she took the bus and walked all over town with special friends. She was a good example of being kind, thoughtful and funny. Her last 8 years were spent at Northpointe Medical and Rehabiliation Center where she was very content. The nurses and CNAs always treated her kindly. The girls in the activity department were wonderful to her, always making sure she was included. She enjoyed crafts, Bingo, social hours, parties and was a member of the Red Hat society and Grandparents Program. During this last year at Northpointe, mom had a doll that she kept with her at all times.
