Vicky Smits, age 59, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loving family. Vicky has gone home to the Lord.
Born on January 5, 1964, in Black Creek, WI to the late James and Joyce Theil, she carried on the family’s commitment to Christ. An active member of Plymouth Church, her love of the Lord guided her every action. She was a shining beacon of hope, love, and faith. Her joy was reflected in her 20+ year career as a CNA, dedicated to every patient in her care.
Vicky married the love of her life, John Smits, on June 13, 2009, in Townsend, WI. Together with their combined family shared over 14 years together.
Vicky was bright, enthusiastic, and the most loving person. Her voice lifted in praise to the glory of God will be sorely missed.
She is survived by husband, John Smits; three children: Jessica (Brent) McKenna, Olivia McKenna, and Jacob (Donele) Rentmeester; siblings: John (Susan) Thiel, Sharon (Ken) Blohm, Susan (Jim) Elliott, Michael (Shirley) Thiel, Bill (Lori) Thiel, Ginny (Bruce) Cameranesi; four grandchildren: Tommy and Ryan Boodry, Haley and Blake Fonder and Alice McKenna. She was preceded in death by one sibling, Marilyn (Terry) Butters.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Aurora Hospital, Aurora at home and to her hospice nurse, Angie for providing excellent care for her.
We would also like to thank her bestie and sister in Christ, Suzie Fink for all of her love and support with Vicky as she walked this path.
A memorial service for Vicky will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Plymouth Church, 1325 Georgia Street, Oshkosh. Visitation will take place at the church on Saturday from 9:00 am until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers or please consider a donation to help with memorial funds.
Philippians 4: 4-7
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
You are loved and cherished, and we all look forward to seeing you again. Rest in Peace Dear Mother, Wife, Sister, Aunt and Friend.
