Viktoria "Doris" M. Young

Viktoria Maria "Doris" Young, age 86, of Oshkosh passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023 surrounded by family at Bethel Home of Oshkosh. She was born on September 7, 1936 in Furstenfeldbruck, Bavaria Germany to Johann and Viktoria "Messmer" Schmoelz.

Doris married Stephan "Steve" Young in Furstenfeldbruck on May 31, 1958 while he was stationed at Furstenfeldbruck Air Base.

Doris attended Catholic Girl's School and Trade School in Furstenfeldbruck. She was a retail store clerk at The Kaufhof in Munich, Germany, Gold's Depratment Store in Lincoln, NE and H.C. Prange and J.C. Penney here in Oshkosh until she retired in 1998.

Doris loved music and dancing and she would support her husband by accompanying him on many of his band jobs. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gardening and flowers were a fun hobby for her, and she enjoyed caring for birds and animals.

Doris also enjoyed visiting her homeland and family as often as possible and enjoyed luncheons with her German friends in Oshkosh.

On May 31, 2008, Doris and her husband returned to Bavaria to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They renewed their vows in the same chapel they were married in. Her father helped build the chapel. Their three daughters and families, her sister and brothers and many other relatives and friends were in attendance.

Doris was a member of St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church of Oshkosh.

Survivors include her husband Steve; their three daughters: Cindy (Jon) Christensen of Oshkosh, Rebecca (Michael) Schroeder of Oshkosh and Angela (Jeffrey) Stolz of Fox Crossing; eight grandchildren: Kortney, Christian and Nicklaus Stolz, Jacob (Lily) Roberts, Jordan (Lexie) Paulson, Breanna (Isaac) Paulson, Lisa (Jake) Frisch and Stacy (Ryan) Gutsmiedl; six great grandchildren: Josie, Jacob, Camden, Dominic, Olivia and Corbin; Sister: Rosi Mayer; Brothers: Hans, Konrad, Andy and Klaus Schmoelz; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Along with her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard and Helmut Schmoelz.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Sacred Heart Church, 519 Knapp Street, Oshkosh. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 am until the hour of service. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a very special "Thank You" to the staff at Bethel Home (Serenity Garden) and especially Alice Hodel and Kelly Buck for their compassion and care Doris received over the past 5 1/2 years.
