Viola L. Dahms (Grandma Vee) age 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the Waterford Assisted Living Facility in Oshkosh, where she had resided for the past year and a half.Viola was born in Clintonville WI to Robert J. and Selma Ida (nee Greening) Prellwitz. The family moved to rural Edgar, WI where she lived until the age of nine. At that time her mother passed away and Viola went to live with the William Winter family in the Fremont area. It was there that she met Lester Dahms and they were married on November 23, 1938. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters, all of whom survive.Viola and Lester made their home in Oshkosh until 1962 when they moved to Madison, later to St. Paul MN and finally to Augusta WI where they built their retirement home. Viola was employed at several credit unions throughout her career and then worked in the office of a commercial bakery in St. Paul until her retirement. Vee enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and Sudokus. She was an avid reader, a whiz at cribbage and an enthusiastic Milwaukee Brewer fan.Viola is survived by her three daughters, Judy (Dick) Ruedinger of Oshkosh, Jackie (Barb Noltemeyer) Dahms of Deforest WI, and Carol (Steve) Reigh of Oshkosh. Vee is further survived by her grandchildren: Terry Ruedinger of Oshkosh, Michael (Jessie) Reigh of Wautoma WI, Lynn (Kathryn Nichols) Ruedinger of Oshkosh, Kenneth (Elcy) Reigh of Green Bay, Lori (Tom) Casey of Neenah, and Andrew (Sonya) Reigh of Oshkosh. Also surviving are great-grandchildren: Courtney and Cassandra Reigh, Daniel and Jessica Reigh, Katrina, Julia and Steven Reigh and Evan and Shea Casey. Other survivors include a foster brother, David Winter of Lake Placid FL, brother-in-law, Leroy Dahms of Oshkosh and sister-in-law, Marge Staerkel also of Oshkosh, along with many special nieces and nephews. Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lester Dahms on Feb 10, 1983; A grandson, Rick Ruedinger on April 3, 1993; all of her siblings: Elmer, Willis, Donald and Raymond Prellwitz, Luella Krueger, Dorothy Collar and Beatrice Pfaff. Foster siblings Billy Winter, Lois Willard and Nola Jean Higginbotham also predeceased Vee.The family will greet friends and relatives at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1206 Ontario Street, Oshkosh on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Lidtke officiating. Viola will be laid to rest at Lake View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund in Viola's name.Vee's family extends a sincere thank you to the wonderful, compassionate and caring staff at the Waterford, Building Three, especially Jamie, Amy and Kim and to Heartland Hospice for the excellent care given to Vee.Rest in peace, Mom.
