Violet L. Tews, age 88 of Oshkosh, died peacefully at The Residents of Oshkosh on Saturday, December 28, 2024. She was born in Marion, Indiana on April 21st, 1936, to the late William Sr. and Dorothy (Johns) Herring. Violet (Herring) Tews was married to Leonard Tews and had four children.
She was a mathematics and computer Educator at Omro Highschool from 1976 to 1998. Education was always important to Violet achieving a Masters Degree in Mathematics and continued learning new computer programming languages through the 1990's.
Her interests lie in giving back to her community.
She served on the boards of the Samaritan Counseling Center and Casa Cara Residential Facility, and was also a Mediator for Winnebago County courts. Storytelling was her creative side as she would spin her tale dressed in a coat of many colors, to the children of the church congregation.
Family was the foremost important thing in Vi's life, having helped raise her younger sibling, raised her own children, and then helped raise her grandchildren. She was always happiest to have a kid underfoot, lend a patient ear, mend a scuffed knee, and teach the next generation.
Violet is survived by her children, Matt Tews, Heather Burns, Chuck Tews and Edie Tews; her ten grandchildren, and six great grandchildren; as well as her brother, Terry Herring; and sisters, Judy Webb, Bonnie Swank, and Linda Brown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Leonard Tews and Warren McRae; as well as her brothers, William Herring Jr, David Herring, and Donald Herring.
A Memorial Service is being held at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside, 100 Lake Pointe Dr. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a light lunch for community and celebration of Violet. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Violet's family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the wonderful staff of The Residents and Preceptor Hospice for the compassionate care provided to her at such a difficult time.
