Virginia Gina Marie Graf, 85, of Oshkosh, died on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at her residence, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on February 15, 1923 in Kaukauna, WI the daughter of Peter and Barbara Nabbefelt Van Dyke. Gina married Alvin C. Graf on November 25, 1944 in Kaukauna. Alvin preceded her in death on April 16, 1998. Virginia was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Parish (Sacred Heart Catholic Church), Oshkosh. She was a 1940 graduate of Kaukauna High School and a 1944 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse and Retired Public Health Nurse for the City of Oshkosh. Gina was a member of the Lakeshore Ladies Golf League; Kaukauna Alumni Association; Mercy Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association and the Sacred Heart Craft Group. For 35 years she organized Ginas Invitational, a ladies golf tournament for which she served as the Chief by choreographing transportation, lodging, golf outings at courses in Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota, and of course, an awards banquet. This annual golf tournament, which began with eight close friends, grew into a major event involving, at times, over 60 squaws. It was a major part of her life and a task she thoroughly enjoyed.Gina enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, painting, crafting, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include her loving sons, David L. (Susan) Graf of Pembroke Pines, FL, Daniel C. (Janice) Graf , Thomas W. (Alice) Graf and Stephen M. (Jean) Graf all of Oshkosh. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Michael (Kathryn) Graf, Jennifer (Richard) Ottman, Deborah Graf, Brenda (Mark) Larsen, Erika (Moss) Ruedinger, Andrew Graf, Adam (Samantha) Graf; five great grandchildren; one sister, Laverne (Stanley) Jeffrey; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Hildebrandt and Vivian Graf; one step brother-in-law, James (Cila) Green; and many nieces and nephews.Gina was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Alvin; brothers Merlin and Floyd Van Dyke; and one sister, Angie Hietpas.Visitation will be at St. Jude Parish (Sacred Heart Church), 519 Knapp St. on Monday, October 13, 2008, from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM, with funeral mass to follow with Fr. Tom Reynebeau officiating. Private burial will be at Lake View Memorial Park.The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Aurora Hospice and special caregiver and friend, Roxie Lemieux.In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Wisconsin or the American Cancer Society.
