Walter Charles Doemel, age 90, passed away on Sunday, March 20th, 2016, with family by his side. Walter was born on August 24th, 1925, the son of Walter and Ellen Doemel. He graduated from Oshkosh Senior High School in 1943 and immediately went to work for his father at Oshkosh Storage Co.Walter married the love of his life Maxine Beck on August 20th, 1949.Walter was a hard worker. He spent all his days, sometimes nights and weekends, working diligently to operate and grow the family cold storage business. He loved to hunt and garden, but his favorite hobby was fishing - and that was the only good reason not to work! He would travel to Canada at least once a year to fish for walleye where he would fish all day and then eat what he caught. And Walter loved to eat! There wasn't a thing he didn't like, except watermelon. He would polish off a full plate and then say, "what else ya got?"After the passing of his wife in 2012, and with the help of a group of wonderful caregivers (the gals), Walter settled into a content routine of life. It was a little difficult to get around, but the gals would frequently get him out of the house so he could see what was going on at the warehouse. Walter loved going for rides in the country and stopping at farm markets to load up on fresh produce. He absolutely loved tomatoes and would eat them every day if he could. He truly appreciated and respected the farmers and was in awe at the size of some of the dairy farms in the area. Occasionally he would instruct the gals to take a ride down Hickory Lane in Oshkosh and would reminisce about his family home and when he was growing up there.Walter is survived by his two sons: Charles Doemel and Carl Doemel, both of Oshkosh, WI; his two granddaughters whom he loved with all his heart: Jordan Doemel (fianc Steve Schug), Oshkosh, WI, and Laura Doemel, Tempe, AZ; and one brother: John (Patricia), Oshkosh, WI. He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine; parents: Walter and Ellen Doemel; and sister: Mary Neta.A funeral service for Walter will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes- (Eastside).Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. The family would like to extend a warm, heartfelt thank you to the gals who routinely cared for Walter: Julie, Debbie, Tania, Jeanne, Autumn, and Maggie. There wasn't a day that went by that we weren't extremely thankful for each and every one of you!
