Wanda Ione Ashenfelter

With an emotion of deep sadness punctuated by a void of emptiness, we announce that Wanda lone Ashenfelter passed away unexpectedly at Aurora Medical Center, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Saturday evening, September 29, 2012. She was 83 years old. She was born October 4, 1928 in Racine, Wl. to Everett and Vera Schmidt Walker. She married Ronald Ashenfelter on August 21, 1948 in Racine, WI.Wanda graduated from William Horlick High School, Racine, Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin Extension, Racine, Wisconsin. She held various positions as a bank clerk, jewelry sales associate, and High School Administrative Assistant, and most importantly as an intensely passionate homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother.She was a very earnest advocate of Republican politics in both Oklahoma and Wisconsin; including, traveling to debates and candidate speeches, and providing support in fund raising activities.Wanda was a natural conversationalist and confidant who enjoyed discussing politics, family, and social concerns. She strongly believed - in and continually advocated - for her family. She excelled at cooking entrees and desserts and artistic room decorations. She was exhilarated with the fall season and special events and dinners with family and friends. She loved playing games ranging from Bridge - to Bacchi Ball - to Scrabble with family and friends. Her artistic and careful handwriting was a notable characteristic she continuously performed on an ever - enlarging list of family communications. Earlier in her life, she enjoyed collecting and restoring antique furniture and other collectibles with her friend and neighbor Marilyn. Her fascination with antiques and decorating remained with her throughout her life. She and her husband Ron lived in various states and avidly enjoyed new adventures traveling together throughout the United States.She is survived by her husband Ronald H. Ashenfelter, Oshkosh; one daughter Nancy (Mark) Timm, Ft. Atkinson, WI; four sons: Daniel (Deborah) Ashenfelter, Fond du Lac, Wl; Bennett (Trish) Ashenfelter, Apple Valley, CA; Robert (Patricia) Ashenfelter, Jeffersonville, IN; David (Sammy) Ashenfelter, North Fond du Lac, Wl; two sisters: Shirley (Don) Olander, Sheboygan; Colleen (Richard) Wallis; seven grandchildren: Heath, Heather, Nick, Chris, Daniel, Mandy, Sean; and three great grandchildren: Ava, Charlotte and Iren.Memorial services for Wanda will be held at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home - Westside on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Barry Yarbro officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 am to the time of service. Inurnment will be on Monday at 11:00 am at West Lawn Memorial Park, Racine, WI. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
