Wayne R Strey

Wayne R. Strey, 76, of Oshkosh, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at his home with his family by his side. Wayne was born on May 13, 1931 in Oshkosh a son of John and Lydia Strey. On December 29, 1956 he married Josephine J. Swalley at First English Lutheran Church in Oshkosh where he has been a member since.Wayne graduated from Oshkosh High in 1949 and had served his country in the US Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean Conflict. He had been an electrical apprentice with DK Electric and an Electrician at UW Oshkosh. Wayne also was crafts supervisor and Superintendent of buildings and grounds at Winnebago Mental Health Institute and then returned to UW Oshkosh to serve as Superintendent of buildings and grounds until his retirement in 1993. After retirement, Waynes interests were enjoying his sons, grandchildren, hunting, fishing, and being outdoors – especially on the Lake and bus trips. Survivors include his wife Josephine of Oshkosh; sons, Daniel (Julie) Strey, Jim (Connie) Strey; grandchildren, Jake, Nicole, Courtney and Jack Strey; step grandchildren, Ashley, Kyle, and Brittany Radke; sisters, Jane McDonald of Appleton, Phyllis (Alfred) Jaeger of Apple Valley, MN; sisters-in-law, Anne (Ernie) Currier and Louise Davis along with many special nieces and nephews and countless friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, John C. and Lydia E. Strey; brothers, August, Ralph and John Jack Strey; sisters, Loretta Strey, Dorothy Strey, and Marcella Boldt; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Virginia Strey, Gerald McDonald and Ervin Boldt. A funeral service for Wayne will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home – Westside at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Martin Ruge officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. to the service time. At Waynes request, a private burial at Riverside Cemetery will be held. In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Waynes name has been established. Waynes family would like to send special thanks to Affinity hospice and Rev. Martin Ruge of First English Lutheran Church.
