William Ernest Stapel

William E. Stapel, 79, of Oshkosh, died Sunday May 24, 2009 at Bethel Home. He was born on December 11, 1929 in Oshkosh the son of Hugo and Ruby Stapel. He was married to Shirley Goerlitz on June 10, 1950 in Oshkosh. She preceded him in death on December 22, 2005.He was a self-employed carpenter and was known throughout the Valley as an expert craftsman. After his retirement he worked at Kitz and Pfeil and Advocap. He was a member of Lutheran Brotherhood and Zion Lutheran Church where he was an usher. He was an equipment manger for Warrior Drum and Bugle Corp. One of his favorite things to do was on Tuesday nights go to Winneconne with his wife and friends to listen to polka music. Because he lived next to Webster-Stanley Elementary School he and his wife had a special relationship with the students and staff. He was very appreciative of the plants and flowers they would bring him and the yardwork they would do. He loved animals especially the ducks he would feed in his backyard.He is suvived by his son Craig(Linda) Stapel of Oshkosh, his sister-in-law Jacqueline(Carlton) Kind of Oshkosh, one nephew Brian(Terra) Kind and their children Mason and Cole, one niece Darcy(friend Marc Vitale) Kind, many cousins, and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, many pet dogs whom he loved dearly.Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 28, 2009 at 6 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church(400 N. Sawyer St.) with Rev Jeff Knoll officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the church from 4:30 until the time of the service. Entombment will be at Lake View Memorial Park.A memorial has been established.The family would like to thank Williams Gabriels Villa family and Dr. Rebekah Schroeder for their care and kindness.
