William G. Schmidt

William (Bill) G. Schmidt, age 93, passed away in Oshkosh, WI on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Ascension Mercy Hospital.  He was born to the late John and Mary (VonHoff) Schmidt on December 17, 1928.  Bill married Joan Pugh on October 3, 1951, at Ft. Bragg, NC, she preceded him in death in 1998. Brother John and son-in-law Tom Marhefke also preceded him in death.  He served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper.  

Bill was an animal lover. He loved going to family gatherings, enjoyed camping, square dancing, and listening to Sunday morning Polka music. Bill was a Green Bay Packers season ticket holder since they built the stadium. Bill enjoyed playing games, especially cards and Rummikub. 

Bill is survived by his children, Kathleen (Benjamin) Kossel, Jean (Jon) Marhefke, Karen (Mike) Zimmer, Tom (Dana) Schmidt, Susan (Brad) Baier, and Heidi (Jon) Wrightsman; grandchildren, Jason (Rebecca) Zillges, Sarrah (Kris) Larson, Avery (Angelica) Kossel, Leah Pietrzak, Matt and Tim Marhefke, Jennifer (Jeramie) Riha, Peter (Deanna) Zimmer, Christina Zimmer (Joe), Talia and Giana Schmidt, Austin (Melissa) Baier, Hannah (Jake) Baier, and Riley and Gabriella Wrightsman; and great grandchildren, Hadley, Lambeau, Jacob, Nevaeh, Braylee, Thomas, Arianna, Kendra, Elliot, August, Henry, Hudson, and Oliver.

A graveside service for Bill will be held at Lake View Memorial Park on Friday, March 11, 2022, at 12 pm with Military Honors to follow.
