William J Selwitschka

William J. Selwitschka passed away at Advent Health Hospital in Daytona Beach, FL on July 9, 2021. Bill was born on December 27, 1929, to parents William A. and Daisy J. (Laudenklos) Selwitschka in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where he attended Sacred Heart and Oshkosh High. Bill enjoyed a long career with the Marines, having served in World War ll, the Korean War, and Vietnam achieving the rank of Major. During his service as a Marine, Bill was selected to participate in the rigorous leadership program as a USMC Mustang receiving his commission as an officer. Upon retirement from his military career, Bill went on to consult within the computer technology field. Bill’s passions included golf, both as a participant and spectator, watching tennis and football, viewing movie classics, reading books on numerous subjects, following the stock market, and spending “wine time” on the patio entertained by the antics of the birds and squirrels. He genuinely enjoyed traveling, with Hawaii and Costa del Sol, Spain as two of his favorite vacation destinations. As a snowbird, Bill eagerly looked forward to his weekly morning coffee discussions and evening card games with family and friends while in Oshkosh.

Bill will be greatly missed by his loving wife, June (Gordon) (Sanford, FL) of 14 years, son William Selwitschka, Jr. (Ohio), 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, sisters Helen Selwitschka (Florida), Donna Calkins (Jack, deceased) (Wisconsin), Fran Mondl (Richard, deceased) (Wisconsin), brothers Jim Selwitschka (Judy) (Wisconsin) and Jerry Selwitschka (Debbie), (Wisconsin), as well as stepchildren, Bonnie Glester (Wyoming), Judy Bellamy (Florida), Terry (Rik) Williams (Florida), Thomas Gordon (Florida), Alex Gordon (Wisconsin), Philip Gordon (Florida).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Carol, daughters Jean Allison, Ruth Ann Selwitschka, Roberta Selwitschka, sisters Julia and (Sy) Griswold, Ruth and (Wallace) Dickson, brothers John Selwitschka (Carol and Rolande) and Jack Selwitschka (Debbie).

A private family celebration of life will be held in Florida on July 25, 2021. Arrangements are in the care of Baldauff Family Funeral Home and Crematory, Orange City, FL. A service celebrating Bill’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on August 29, 2021, at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home West, Oshkosh, WI. Visitation will precede the service from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s, Midwest Shelter for Homeless Vets, Inc. or your favorite charity in Bill’s name.
